On-Premise servers

Before the Cloud we had On-Premise servers, which are now becoming a thing of the past. In the near future everything will be on the cloud. By 2020 it is predicted that 83% of Enterprise workloads will be in the Cloud. This increases to 95% by 2022. Let’s look at why with some facts and solutions.

Fact

The average On-Premise server life is 3 to 5 years with maintenance.

Solution

Always backup your data. If you already have an On-Premise server save yourself some money and wait till it is near the end of its life before migrating it to the Cloud. The best way to do this is to hire an IT professional to monitor the server. Just make sure it is on your radar to migrate it to the Cloud in the future. The cloud will not die on you…… Your On-Premise server will.

Fact

It takes longer to setup an On-Premise and costs more

Solution

It takes minutes to spin up a Windows Server Virtual Machine on the Cloud compared to hours for an On-Premise solution. This will save you time and money.

Fact

The average On-Premise server for an SME costs between £3,000 to £5,000.

Solution

Choose a PAYG Cloud service that requires minimal management. On average per month a Cloud server with full management cost an SME £250 compared to an On-Premise which costs £1,250 without staff in costs to manage the server 24×7.

Fact

You will have to pay for On-Premise maintenance and someone to monitor it for you. It can be expensive having to replacing disks and having some kind of redundancy to stop the loss of data.

Solution

Migrate to the Cloud. With the Cloud you do not need to worry about disks dying or paying for redundancy. The Cloud replaces all hardware without any extra cost of keeping your data safe. This means you do not have to pay for an IT professional to monitor any Hardware failures saving you even more money

Fact

It can be time consuming for a server to go offline. If your On-Premise server goes down you will need to call your IT professional and hope they are not busy. This can take hours if not days to bring this back up for your business to continue as usual.

Solution

The Cloud guarantees 99.9% up time. If something does go wrong with a Cloud Solution your IT professional does not need to be onsite to reset or resolve the issue. As long as they have an Internet connection, they can log onto the Cloud server and fix the issue within minutes. Moving to the Cloud makes so much more sense. Can your business afford to not be working for hours or even a day?

Fact

SME’s spend minimal to no money for security for an On-Premise server causing a massive risk to data loss, Viruses, Malware, Trojans, Worms, Spyware, Ransomware and much more. In 2014 a vice president at Symantec (the company that created Norton Antivirus) went as far to publicly say he thought that antivirus software was “dead.” It was estimated at the time that the technology only caught about 45 percent of known cyber-attacks. That was 3 years before the NHS was hit by the WannaCry ransomware.

Solution

Microsoft spend over £1 billion on security research and development for the Cloud meaning if your server was in the Cloud you would have the same level of Cyber security as Microsoft, and this is included in the price. You will never have to worry about security costs again.
